Born in Lakenheath (Mildenhall Q4-1919 4A:1863). Son of Robert Cooper and Ella Maud MACKENDER (née KENT), of Lakenheath, Suffolk. In the 1939 register at The Tap Inn, High Street, Mildenhall were his father Robert [8-3-1889] a labourer/innkeeper; his mother Ella M [10-3-1893]; brother Reginald S [19-4-1913] farm labourer; Marjorie E FLACK [3-9-1928] scholar(possibly an evacuee). Ronald died the day the US forces entered Rome. The 65th and 92nd General Hospitals were in Naples from late in 1943 until the end of the war, also the
67th General Hospital for the greater part of that time. The site for the war cemetery was chosen in November 1943 and burials were made in it from the
hospitals and garrison. Later graves were brought in from a number of small cemeteries in the immediate vicinity. As his records are not available it is not possible to record exactly where or when he was injured but he was initially buried in Scudello Military Cemetery and moved to Naples on 19th September 1944. |
